THIS CAR IS NOT FOR SALE .
Initially built by Peter Clarke Autos for Henri Toivonen to compete in the 1979 RAC rally (retirement due to axle problems), this forest spec LHD Safety Device shell was re-registered in February 1980 and sold off to Jeff Churchill Motorsport.
Jeff and his co-driver Roger Evans used it several times in UK, converted it to tarmac specs and hired it to a young promising Belgian driver called Patrick Snijers. In 1980 Patrick drove it in the Limburgia Rally (retirement engine problems) and on the Castrol Rally in the UK.
In 1981, thanks to his co-driver Erik Siemens, he hired the car for the Boucles de Spa, first event of the Belgian Championship. And they won!
Thanks to the Spa winners award, they hired the car for the Circuit des Ardennes, second leg of the Championship... that they won again! They then won the third leg (Haspengouwrally) and finished 6th of the Ypres 24 hours strengthening their lead in the championship...but had no more budgets. They eventually took part to the Hunsruck rally in Germany (retirement) and where leading the Limburgia when they were disqualified for a missing stamp on their road book.
In 1982, Robert Droogmans who was sponsored by Belga and who had had several disappointments with the Tony Maslen car (YCD 988T) in 1981 moved to Jeff Churchill Motorsport and hired NUG 573V. Unfortunately for him, the Belga Team ran another programme with Marc Duez and the mighty Porshe 911. Robert only had a limited program for Spa (2nd) Haspengouw (retirement) and Ypres (retirement). He managed to take the start of the Bianchi Rally thanks to the help of Ford Belgium (with a mixed Ford-Belga livery) which he lead until being disqualified for opening the bonnet in a prohibited zone. Later that year he hired NUG again for the Limburgia with the only support of Ford (white and blue livery) and he won.
In 1983, Robert Droogmans started again with Jeff Churchill and Belga. He used another jeff's car (HED 593V) for Spa and Circuit des Ardennes before returning to NUG for Tielt (second overall) and Haspengouw (third overall). From 24 hours of Ypres on, he used a third car (825 LJ) with group B specs.
The car was then sold to Tony Maslen and used by Joe Rook in several UK and continental rallies (Astra stages,...) with a white and blue livery. His driver also brought it in Belgium for the 1985 Circuit des Ardennes.
Dutchman Dennis Klein then bought it and ran a few events more, the last one being the Rally van Looi, a gravel event in Belgium in 1987.
The car was then acquired by former Ford Netherlands driver Rob Van Der Poel who never touched it again... until spring 2003 when, after some very intensive research, we finally discovered him and his famous car.
Rob was no seller and it hasn't been easy to convince him to sell the car and its spares package. We finally concluded the deal in March and started to strip the car in June. We restored the shell to its original specs and livery (Bianchi 1982).
Robert Droogmans himself helped by providing the missing sticker which had to take place on the boot and which was impossible to identify from the period pictures that we had: he still had the original "Jeff Churchill Motorsport" sticker! The restoration is now completed with BDG and ZF gearbox fitted. The car is now waiting for another restoration.
